We are proud of the work we do and of the excellent reputation we have worked hard to establish for our properties, and we intend to remain a valued and responsible member of our community for many years to come.

We recently have resolved our differences with Maui County and are very happy to say that we have all our necessary permits and we can put this behind us. We applied for and received 3 of the very first vacation rental permits issued in Maui County.  Prior to their new ordinance we had been operating successfully for many years until there was a permitting process.

We did our best to comply with a brand new ordinance that was often confusing and flawed, and which thousands of short-term vacation properties simply ignore because of the difficulty in trying to understand and comply with. The County is now in the process of attempting to amend the ordinance, in part due to some of the difficulties in the original ordinance.

We respectfully disagree with the County’s claims and there was no admission of wrongdoing on our part. For example, some of the violations cited by the County involved work that it is undisputed that we simply did not do, some involve buildings and improvements that existed long before our ownership of the properties, and others were minor things like small storage sheds. With the exception of an open-air gazebo, all of the Violations were for conditions that existed on the properties when they were inspected and approved for short-term rental use.  All of the Violations that were issued have been resolved, and we have received long term extensions on all of our vacation rental permits. We have worked diligently with the County and responded to all of their requests and will continue to do so.

The Paia Inn, and our vacation rentals, contributes significantly to the local Paia economy. Our properties have won numerous awards and recognition, our employees are stellar, and we believe the community recognizes the valuable contributions we have made to Paia town. Our reviews and press, from all over the world, have been outstanding and we are proud to be rated as one of the best accommodations on Maui.
